2007 Columbia River Brigade Update
Hello paddlers,
This is a short note regarding the latest Columbia River Brigade Updates!
I have had inquiries regarding the registration fee and what it covers. The $1000 registration fee is a team fee. Teams are responsible for finding their own paddlers and for making their outfit self-reliant. We suggest that teams comprise 8-10 members to provide rest days for paddlers. As well, it’s advised to have ground crew available to strike and set up camp gear as the brigade moves along the river. The registration fee will pay for a portion of the team’s page on the web site, the GPS tracking device for the Map Page and for part of the liability insurance cost for the event.
To assist you in your quest to attract sponsors and partners, we are providing each team with a feature page on the event web site. This page will include links to your sponsors and partners web pages. As well, the GPS tracking device will be displayed on the Map Page. When viewers click your icon, your team’s web page and sponsor information will be displayed.
If you are going to enter the event or if you are thinking of entering, please complete the on-line registration form as soon as possible to enable up-to-date web site communiqués. We expect millions of “unique page views” during the event. In addition, archives of the web site, map pages and your team’s daily travel will be available for a year following the brigade.
A number of liaison people from the communities along the route are planning to sponsor historically-related local activities to coincide with the arrival of the canoes. They have expressed a great deal of interest in the presentation of “The David Thompson Heritage Stage Show”.
Sometime next week, the official logo for the David Thompson 2007 Columbia River Brigade will be available for downloading or printing from the web site. The logo will be useful to publicize event information such as route plans, destination dates and times, team sponsors, etc. We encourage and challenge all communities along the route to enter a team in the 2007 Columbia River Brigade. This is a golden opportunity to stimulate local heritage pride and to garner tourist attraction to your community. One recent article used the banner title: The David Thompson 2007 Columbia River Brigade ~ “Davy’s Navy”. Join the Navy Now!!
