Itinerary

June 24

Mini paddle fest evening in Vernon. Ceremonial arrival at Kin Beach on Okanagan Lake and David Thompson Heritage Stage Show at 7 PM.

June 25

Vernon admin gang travel to Canal Flats and arrive late afternoon/early evening. Camp ground is between ball park and arena.

June 26

Ceremonial walk between Kootenay River and Columbia Lake in AM (McGillivary Portage as DT had named it in 1807)

Paddle with school kids early afternoon at Provincial park south east corner Columbia Lake.

Teams arrive and should be in campground for 4 PM meeting of all paddlers.

Dinner on our own.

David Thompson Heritage Stage Show 7 PM.

June 27

Canal Flats community pancake breakfast 0630. Teams on water 0730 to 0800. Paddle to Fairmont Resort and there may be a short reception there. Paddle to Windermere Beach on Lake Windermere and time arrival at Invermere for 5 PM at Kinsmen Beach, north west bay/beach. Arrival ceremony. Community dinner. Camp ground right at beach. David Thompson Heritage Stage Show at 7 PM

June 28

Possibility of community breakfast. Leave by 0830 or 0900. Paddle to Edgewater. There may be a short intermediate stop at an island near Radium for tea, scones and local honey. Arrive Edgewater same place as last year. Camp ground is on a private lot, right on first street after hill from arrival area. Showers at Radium Hot Springs. Community dinner $10 for paddlers. David Thompson Heritage Stage Show at campground 7 PM.

 

June 29

Edgewater community breakfast, $5 for paddlers. Paddle to Parson bridge. Depending on level of water, could be a long paddle. Drive to Golden Eco-Adventure Ranch at Nicholson (over bridge at Nicholson and 500 meters on right). Great campground if not flooded. Has wash house and laundromat.

Dinner on own

David Thompson Heritage Stage Show for Golden and area at 7 PM.

June 30

From Parson Bridge to Nicholson. Could be long day. Dinner and evening on own.

 

July 1

Paddle to Golden early AM and arrive in time for community pancake breakfast. Arrival ceremony and protocol events probably at breakfast site. Some voyageurs and canoes may be in Golden Canada Day Parade.

Drive to Revelstoke to arrive early afternoon. Some voyageurs and canoes will be in Revelstoke Canada Day Parade, 1:30PM.

Camp site is river left, about a quarter mile below #1 highway bridge. Nice grassy area between river and ball park.

We will do a ceremonial paddle from above bridge to camp site 3PM, do arrival ceremony. There may be a community dinner. David Thompson Heritage Stage Show in town at 7PM. The July 1st committee in Revelstoke is still working on things!

 

July 2

Day off for all. There may be a short paddling event in the afternoon in aid of the White Sturgeon recovery program. Still in the works.

July 3

Paddle to Shelter Bay at West terminus of Galena Bay ferry. Camp and meals on our own.

July 4

Paddle to Nakusp to arrive at 3 pm.

Arrival ceremony on beach and move to campground just across road and between gazebo and rec center.

Short sprint at 4 pm.

Community dinner ( free to paddlers courtesy of Columbia Basin Trust), public can purchase tickets for $13/plate, advance purchase (at What's Brewing on Broadway? coffee shop) or notice (Beth cpc@nakusp.com) preferred for the caterer.

David Thompson Heritage Stage Show at 6:30.

July 5

Paddle to Edgewood. The community of Edgewood is planning welcoming festivities and the stage show will be presented on the outdoor stage at Whatshan Lake Retreat. Arrival ceremony 3 pm and all move to Whatshan Retreat, 15 minute drive from arrival area and near the western terminus of Needles Ferry. Camp and David Thompson Heritage Stage Show right at the retreat. Community dinner.

July 6

Edgewood community breakfast. Early start to arrive in Castlegar 4 PM. We will go through lock at dam above Castlegar. Arrival ceremony at beach/park in town then all move to Pass Creek campground reserved specifically for us. Possibility of First Nations Salmon Bake/dinner. David Thompson Heritage Stage Show at 7 PM. This will be our last night together.

July 7

Possibility of community breakfast. Leave for short paddle to Trail, river conditions being a consideration. Arrive Trail 1200. Arrival ceremony and civic lunch Gyro Beach courtesy of the City of Trail. Disperse by 2 PM.
